Wellfleet Community Links & Resources

It is thought that Wellfleet's name came from "Whale Fleet". Prior to being incorpated on June 16, 1763, Wellfleet was originally a part of Eastham and known as Billingsgate. Located 75 miles out into the Atlantic, this unique Outer Cape town is only two miles wide with beautiful beaches on either side. Wellfleet's clear spring-fed ponds or kettle holes are also a favorite place to take a dip. A stroll down Main Street makes it clear why Wellfleet is known as the art gallery town. But art isn't the only thing Wellfleet is famous for--try the tasty oysters--fried, baked, roasted, stewed or raw!

Interesting Sites: Cape Cod National Seashore, Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, Wellfleet Drive-In, Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre, Cape Cod Rail Trail, Wellfleet Historical Society.
